Family – FAQ

How long will the portrait session last?

The shoots typically last between 1 and 2 hours – as long as it takes to get great pictures without wearing everyone out. I can work around naps and your schedule so that everyone enjoys the shoot. “A year in your life” sessions are about an hour each. At the beginning of the session I spend a few minutes working out where best to photograph your family, and getting your children used to having me around. It often helps to take short breaks - for a change of location or outfits or to switch between individual and group pictures. About a week after the shoot I’ll show you all the images and explain the different framing and print options.

How much will it cost?

A portrait session costs £75 including a print of your choice. Once you see the images you’re free to order whatever other products you’d like from canvasses to a CD of all the images. Prices of the most popular options are listed on the price list.

Relaxed children photograph best, so they should wear comfortable clothes. Black, white, and highly-patterned clothes are probably the least photogenic, but the choice is entirely yours - and you may want to change outfit during the session.

How long does it take to receive the photos?

At the time of the shoot we’ll arrange a time for me to come back and talk through the print options. I’ll also give you the login details for your own secure on-line gallery which you can share with friends and family. From the gallery you can pick your favourite images to have printed or compiled into an album. Depending on what you order, you’ll receive your pictures two to three weeks later.

Informal portraits or action shots - perhaps of your child at play or doing sport – capture a child’s personality most naturally. I shoot the majority of my pictures using natural light, although I also use portable studio lighting for contemporary portraits.

Are other types of prints or items available?

The price list covers the most popular prints and canvases. If you’d prefer, I can put an image onto postcards, a mouse mat, mug or t-shirt. Different print and frame sizes are also available, and photographs can be framed together – the possibilities are almost infinite.

What if I don't like the photos?

I’m confident you will be delighted with the pictures I produce and all sessions come with a money-back guarantee. If I feel a session has not worked well I’ll contact you to arrange an additional shoot. If for any reason you’re unhappy with the pictures I’ve taken, you can either have your money back or arrange another shoot to capture images which you will enjoy for years to come.
